Introduction to Role Play

Using Role Play in the Health Classroom

The use of role play or behavioral rehearsal is an effective teaching strategy that helps students practice or reinforce a health skill.   Educators have theorized that children learn from participating in role plays because the technique is active, relevant and allows the students to examine the basis of their own perceptions. Not only do they develop their own self confidence in using a health skill, but they also learn how others react to various attitudes and behaviors.

Role Play is an effective technique that allows a student to practice a health skill in a safe environment where they can develop self confidence in using the skill when they need it in a real-life situation.
