Reflection on Practice
Today’s state-of-the-art health education curricula reflect the growing body of research that emphasizes these core characteristics of effective health education. During this session you identified some not so effective practices that include:
● Often overemphasize scientific facts and increasing student knowledge.
● Use Scare Tactics
● Teacher Focused
● Focused on content, not skill development
● Not aligned to evidence outcomes / standard
● No opportunities for practice
Based on the characteristics and the not so effective practices reflect on your teaching, curriculum or courses:
What characteristics are you currently implementing at a high level?
What characteristics do you think you could improve on?
Open your calendar and set up a time in the next week to work on how you can improve implementing these characteristics.
