Introduction

Characteristics of Effective Health Education Curricula

One of the key parameters beyond implementation of the standards is to ensure that identified curricula and resources are effective and aligned with best practices. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of Adolescent and School Health (CDC-DASH), has examined a synthesis of professional literature to determine the common characteristics of effective health education curricula. This review by CDC-DASH of effective programs and curricula, along with input from experts in the field of health education, have identified the following characteristics of effective health education curricula (many of which are reflected in the revised standards and evidence outcomes).  The video describes CDC's characteristics of effective health education.

In the tabs below you will find the characteristics in three groups. In the characteristics tab 1-4 you will find a matching activity, characteristics 5-9 you will find a multiple choice activity, and in the characteristic 10-14 tab you will complete a true false activity.  These short activities examine examples of these characteristics and in some cases, identify not so effective practices that you should avoid.
