The calibration process serves multiple purposes in the Performance Assessment Cycle. Just like umpires learning how to call a strike in baseball, calibration helps educators collaboratively norm around what success looks like. It also provides an opportunity for educators to examine trends in student work, pressure test rubric language, and further strengthen their performance assessment design. In essence, calibration greatly increases scoring consistency of student work. The calibration process ensures that the scoring process is fair and reliable and provides an opportunity to make task and rubric revisions.
