1. Reflect on the Experience
Now that you have redesigned a unit of study to include culturally responsive practices, instructional equity and cognitively-demanding instruction, consider how you might apply this to other units of study, structures within your classroom, or even communication with your students' parents/guardians.
In the next week how will you expand these practices into other areas of your teaching?
In the next month how will you expand these practices into other areas of your teaching?
How might you make those in your department, teaching team, or grade level aware of these practices in an effort to encourage them to include them in their teaching?
2. Retake Implicit Association Test (IAT)
To be clear, all people hold implicit/unconscious biases.
Select the Implicit Association Test that you took in the past.
- Have the results changed?
- What do the results say about the impact of implementing culturally responsive practices in your class?
- What does a change in results say about your ability to have a growth mindset about yourself? What does it say about having a growth mindset towards others?
Warning: This test has been taken more than one million times, and the results usually reveal some degree of bias. Your test results will include interpretations based on research done with more elaborate versions of this test. However, the parties who have contributed to this site make no claim regarding the validity of suggested interpretations.
